WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Tuesday, April 10, 2024, 160 organizations led by African Communities Together (ACT) and Congolese community leaders from across the United States, delivered a letter to President Joe Biden, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to urge an initial 18 month Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Special Student Relief designation for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The DRC is facing one of the deadliest armed conflicts in modern history, due to escalating widespread violence, environmental disasters, and humanitarian emergencies in the country. There are currently over 6 million people internally displaced in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
NEW YORK, NY. - On Thursday, April 5, 2024, immigrant rights organization, African Communities Together and the Africa Center, hosted an iftar meal for a group of asylum seekers celebrating Ramadan. The iftar was held at the Africa Center’s Harlem location on the corner of 5th Avenue and 110th Street, across the street from Central Park. Over 50 African asylum seekers attended the event and staff of both organizations served food as it was time to break their fast.

New York— On Thursday, November 16 at 10am, the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) and African Communities Together (ACT), along with elected officials, NYIC member organizations, housing allies, community groups and immigrant New Yorkers held a rally, “sleep in,” and press conference at Gracie Mansion urging Mayor Adams to stop attacking New York City’s right to shelter policy and scapegoating asylum seekers.
