Congressional Leaders Call on DHS to Renew TPS

On the eve of the deadline for Homeland Security to announce whether it will renew Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, 39 members of Congress sent a letter to Secretary Jeh Johnson asking him to extend the program.

Led by Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), Rep. Yvette D. Clarke (NY-9), and Rep. José E. Serrano (NY-15), a broad range of Congressmembers called on Johnson to enact an 18 month extension, given the severe damage done by the Ebola epidemic and the need for more time to rebuild.

DHS is expected to make an announcement regarding TPS for Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone on September 21.
